The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry plans to set up an office at King Abdulaziz International Airport to boost customs services for its members. The JCCI's Deputy Secretary General Mohiuddin Al-Hakami, accompanied by several members, met with the airport's Director General of Customs Muhammad Al-Aqil recently to discuss the issue.

During the meeting, the JCCI members praised the customs department for clearing cargo quickly and protecting the country from harmful substances such as narcotics, explosives and counterfeit goods.

The discussions focused on issues related to the storage and loss of packages. Al-Aqil said 90 percent of packages are insured by freight companies in collaboration with Saudi Arabian Airlines.

There was also constant contact with importers on matters such as clearance.
