JEDDAH: The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) has called for reasonable prices of food items during this year’s Haj season.

The issue was discussed during a meeting between JCCI’s Commission for Food and Beverages and the Ministry of Trade and Industry on Thursday.

The JCCI urged the ministry to ensure factories to produce sufficient amount of food to meet the demand of the pilgrims, while not increasing their prices.

Both parties agreed that a visit must be planned to the commission to evaluate their production capacity and discuss the obstacles they face.

Trade Commission Chairman Naid Al-Sharif urged the local authorities to prevent price manipulation by shops and restaurants during the season.

He praised the success achieved by the inspection campaigns last year, encouraging them to continue their work and prevent any violations in the market.

Al-Sharif disclosed the committee’s recent visit to the food factory of the restaurant, “Shami”, including his meeting with the chief executive officer of the Al-Rajhi International Group. They discussed the goals and vision of overcoming obstacles faced by the food industry from government agencies.
