A workshop held at the Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) recently emphasized the role of the safety specialists and initiatives to develop services.

Organized by the safety and security committee at the JCCI, the workshop drew many experts who addressed the commercial fraud and manipulation in installations and buildings and the importance of quick action in the event of accidents related to safety.

The committee expressed willingness to participate in the technical investigation of the incidents taking place in facilities in Jeddah, especially relating to negligence of safety management or fraud linked to poor implementation to help in identifying the problems, and organize training and rehabilitation programs to raise the level of security and safety.

Ahmed Al-Ghamdi, president of the committee, said the initiative was meant to benefit everyone interested in safety in Jeddah to share their experiences and thoughts about safety in the development of facilities.

“They can send e-mail to the committee, in order to collect successful experiences of the previous forums and meetings, and benefit from them in the future,” he said.

He said the workshop hosted by Saleh Mohammed Balamsh, counsellor and safety consultant, stressed the role of special safety in each facility.

“It is the responsibility of civil defense toward the safety of the building or facility and contribute in the prevention of fires and disasters but it is also the responsibility of the owners of the buildings and businessmen that they check the materials that need to use and take measures to cope with any emergency,” he added.

Al-Ghamdi pointed out that the safety committee at JCCI is among the most prestigious committees in the Kingdom that was founded six years ago under the safety and security department.

“The committee contributes in the preservation of life and property, economic and social development with consolidation of the foundation of scientific standards for safety, provision of technical advice according to the rules and procedures of the committee, and the issuance of regulatory technical manuals, regulations and uniform standards that required for safety and security,” he said.

He pointed out that among the proposed objectives of the committee of consumers who keep an eye on cheating and poor implementation of equipment and instruments with security and safety, the committee will seek to resolve the differences that occur between the affiliates or clients with respect to business professionals.

Mohammed Balamsh touched upon many topics, including building safety, the fire safety management (fire alarm equipment and fire fighting), public safety and safe planning, safety in public utility systems, etc.
