Jeddah Municipality announced the development of a plan to curb the effects of the heavy rains in the city. According to officials, the plan includes closely monitoring rain accumulation points in the streets, the main roads and low areas in different neighborhoods.

More than 1,600 workers are ready to work round the clock, equipped with 512 different pieces of machinery that include water suction pumps and tanks. These workers have been deployed in different neighborhoods in Jeddah to deal with any danger that could arise from the heavy downpour. In a bid to control undesired effects caused by the rains, over 570 members of the health hygiene department will be ready to combat mosquito breeding sites and flies by installing light traps and spraying their breeding areas.

The Jeddah Municipality will also benefit from the sub-municipalities’ resources to combat the rising water levels and residues from the streets, in coordination with the relevant authorities such as Civil Defense, Traffic Authority, General Security and the Red Crescent.

The municipality added that the plan includes a comprehensive scheme to spread the field workers and water suction machines across all the neighborhoods. As part of this containment plan, the team will also follow up on water drainage networks and continue to spray watersheds with materials to combat the spread of mosquitoes.

The municipality has also contracted cleaning companies to do maintenance work at the drainage networks periodically, including the network lines. The cleaning companies will also supervise and validate the efficiency of the water flow in the networks.

The emergency center at the municipality is equipped with several systems to enhance its services. The center can be reached by dialing 940 to report flooding emergencies.
