Jeddah Mayor Hani Abu Ras has ordered the partial opening of the King Fahd Street intersection (known as Sitteen Street) with the Industrial Institute Street to facilitate traffic flow.

When completed, the bridge at this intersection will be 1 km long and 23 meters wide, with three lanes on each side.

The directives came during the mayor’s inspection visit to ongoing underpass and bridge projects being executed across Jeddah.

The tour included a briefing on construction work, in addition to finding ways to curb delays in implementing eight underpass and overpass projects throughout the city.

“We must find ways to overcome such obstacles in coordination with Parsons Corp., the municipality’s consultant,” he said. “Contractors should review their schedules to ensure work is completed on time.”

Abu Ras toured the intersection between King Abdulaziz Road and Hamra and Palestine streets, where an underpass spanning 1.4 km is being built from north to south.

A two-way, three-lane bridge that is 609 meters long and 26.4 meters wide is being built along Prince Majed Street, while an underpass along Old Makkah Road that is 560 meters long and more than 210 meters wide is also under construction.

A 600-meter-long overpass is also being constructed between Prince Majed and Bani Malik streets and a huge 2.4 km, three-lane overpass is being built between Palestine Street and Prince Miteb and Dallah streets.

A 580-meter, three-lane overpass will also connect the Rawda District with King Fahd Street at the old bicycle roundabout, while a long bridge spanning more than 2.5 km will be built between King Fahd and Heraa streets.

Finally, a two-way 580-meter-long bridge will connect Madinah Road with Halima Al-Sadia Street.
