Jeddah Police have arrested 8,000 suspects involved in criminal cases and violations of residency and work laws over the last three months.

The arrests were based on investigations after members of the public informed the police of various violations and suspicious behavior by using the tips telephone line at 02-6425550.

The police set up checkpoints and executed raids to arrest the suspects, who have been charged with various crimes, including theft, trafficking liquor, purse snatching, car theft, fraud, commercial cover up involving illegal persons, unlicensed shops and public disorder.

Other arrests include beggars, illegal traveling vendors and traffic violators.

The arrested include 126 persons wanted for involvement in criminal cases, 3,657 persons for violating residency regulations, 606 violators of work regulations, 3,544 beggars including 1,858 women, 1,676 children and 10 men.
