The Jeddah municipality has moved to construct urgently five new footbridges to provide pedestrian safety. They will be on Prince Majed Road opposite Flamingo Mall, Al-Andalus Street (near SAMBA bank), Makarona Street at Hera crossing, King Fahd (Sitteen) Street at Sari crossing and King Saud Road near Civil Defense station (close to Islamic Development Bank building).

The municipality plans to build another 20 footbridges in the next three months.

Spokesman for the Jeddah municipality Mohammed Al-Bugami said the new footbridges will embody a distinctive design representing Jeddah’s identity as the gateway to the Two Holy Mosques with Islamic carvings which allow for ventilation and a roof to let in natural light.

He added that the bridges will be equipped with safety features and fitted with elevators and lanes for people with special needs.

The municipality has also signed maintenance contracts for the existing 24 footbridges.
