RIYADH: The mobile service conducted by the Ministry of Labor and Social Development in Riyadh on Monday attracted a large number of young men and women who are interested in taking up careers in the mobile and telecommunications industry.
According to an official from the Human Resources Development Fund (HRDF), there was a huge turnout of job-seekers and employers from the relevant sectors.
The mobile unit was housed in a luxury coach neatly refurbished to give visitors an office look. The fully air-conditioned bus was equipped with state-of-the art facilities such as fax machines, computers and photo copy machines.
The mobile unit will move to other areas in the capital and subsequently find its way to other parts of the Kingdom.
The official said job-seekers were introduced to the employers and those who needed vocational training were referred to the Technical Vocational Training Corporation (TVTC) to upgrade. He said the HRDF grants a loan of SR200,000 to young men and women who are interested in opening their own businesses in the mobile and telecommunications sectors. This is being done by the HRDF in cooperation with the TVTC, National Business Institute and Saudi Credit and Savings Bank. Loans are repayable and a sum of SR3,000 will also be given as allowances for the first two years, provided they meet the conditions of the HRDF.
Official spokesman of the Ministry of Labor Khalid Abha Al-Khail said all expatriates irrespective of their nationalities will have to be replaced by locals. “We need this sector to be full Saudized by Sept 1.” He said the inspection campaign will be carried out in all sectors in the mobile industry beginning the Holy Month of Ramadan.
“We are very keen on employing young Saudi men and women in this sector,” he added.
The training programs are being conducted in coordination with the TVTC cover areas such as customer service, sales management, the basics of mobile maintenance and maintenance of advanced mobile phones.
