JEDDAH: The Ministry of Civil Service has stated that the citizen who burned his certificate in front of one of its buildings because he could not find a job, has poor marks that resulted in others landing jobs ahead of him.
Muhana bin Saud Al-Inizi had burned his certificate in front of the ministry’s Hafr Al-Batin building on Sunday, and had posted a video of the act on social media. Al-Inizi had accused the ministry of employing expatriates rather than citizens.
On Tuesday, the ministry stated that Al-Inizi had passed out at a Jordanian institution last year and had less points than other candidates applying for the same position. The Jadarah employment program register revealed that he received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Science and Technology in Jordan with an ordinary pass.
He had applied for 49 jobs but had less points than all the candidates chosen for those positions. However, he did not apply for a job that was vacant in Najran that was filled by another applicant with less points. The ministry added that it had sought applicants for 185 jobs recently but these were all filled.
Normally, each government agency has to announce its vacancies, based on their budgets. The role of the civil service ministry is to publicly announce the jobs filled by other ministries. Applications are judged on merit, seniority, grade of certificate, other job requirements, and who has the highest points, the ministry said.
Al-Inizi had claimed Sunday that he was one of 600 Saudi dentists who cannot find jobs with the Ministry of Health. He said half of the 3,500 doctors employed by the ministry are foreigners.
Arab News reported on Saturday, quoting a report by an online publication, that a whopping 4,000 Saudi dentists are unable to find jobs. There are 3,000 who have just graduated and 1,000 who have done so but have not found work. Experts were quoted as saying that jobs are available, but expatriates are being hired.
