JEDDAH: Jordanian politicians said that the conclusions of the US-Gulf summit have shown the importance of the Saudi role in resolving the region’s issues and crisis management, explaining that the Kingdom has the keys to solutions to the region’s crises and is able to solve issues by its lenient and decisive policies.

Former Minister Bassam Haddaden told Okaz that US President Barack Obama’s presence at this specific time confirms the Kingdom’s critical role in the Arab and Islamic world, saying that Washington has learned from its mistakes in the region and is reviewing its policies to return to Saudi Arabia as the only Arab country which holds the keys to solutions in the Middle East, because of its political weight and religious importance.

He explained that bilateral or group summits have restored confidence and momentum to US-Saudi and US-Gulf relations, especially as they touched on thorny issues, pointing out that talks stressed cooperation and joint defense to confront Iran and terrorist organizations.

Political science professor at the University of Jordan Amin Mashaqba said that the political and diplomatic movement led by Riyadh will have positive results on the crisis and deteriorating situation in the region, especially the Syrian and Yemeni files.

He pointed out that the results of this movement have led to a mutual commitment to more effective steps in confronting Daesh.

Mashaqba said that the Iranian issue has attracted attention in the talks between the various parties, especially since Riyadh believes that the conflict in Syria represents a major threat to the region for many reasons, including the extended Iranian influence, and the emergence of terrorist hotbeds, armed groups and extremists in Syria as a major security threat to the region as a whole. “The two sides have agreed to address Iran’s activities that are destabilizing security and stability in the region.”

Parliamentarian Ahmed Galodi stressed that the Arab world is waiting for deeds and not words from the US administration. Galodi said that support for the Syrian people, cessation of the fighting in Yemen, supporting a unity government in Libya, and facing Iran and the terrorist organizations were the most important results of the summit.
