A group of Saudi undergraduates from Prince Salman University in Al-Kharj visited the Saudi Research and Marketing Group (SRMG) head office in Riyadh to learn and see the ins and outs of journalism, as they are hoping to become journalists in the future.

Led by their senior faculty member and course in-charge Mohammed Kassem, a group of 30 students pursuing bachelor’s with English major were welcomed by Arab News staff.

The students were briefed about the organization, which owns Arab News, the leading English daily and its sister publications like Asharq Al-Awsat, the world’s premier pan-Arab daily newspaper, Al-Eqtisadiah and Al-Riyadia to fully demonstrate the values and inspire them to join the exciting career.

During the interactive session, Arab News reporters made a presentation focusing on Arab News, its brief history, success story in terms of editorial production, reporting and other related aspects, which was followed by a Q&A session covering essential features of the media sector.

The reporters answered the volley of questions, among them inquiries like how a headline or a front page story is decided, what qualifies to be a newsworthy information and how reports are confirmed from various sources.

The Q&A was followed by an SRMG office tour during which the students interacted with Al-Eqtisadiah journalists, who explained the details on how the daily newspaper works to the visiting students.

Kassem thanked SRMG on behalf of the university and pointed out that their students will take this opportunity to do well in the media sector.
