RIYADH: The King Abdul Aziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) signed an agreement for the electronic transfer of national intellectual production documentation project with the King Fahd National Library in Riyadh on Monday.

The agreement was signed by KACST President Prince Dr. Turki bin Saud bin Mohammed Al-Saud and King Fahd National Library Secretary General Professor Muhammad bin Abdulaziz Al-Rashed, in the presence of a number of officials from both sides.

Following the signing ceremony, Prince Dr.Turki bin Saud bin Mohammed Al-Saud pointed out that the city launched this project last year with the aim of electronically transferring national intellectual production documentation in the areas of science and technology.

“It will be electronically archived and made available through the Internet for researchers and beneficiaries free-of charge without any restrictions to support the educational and research efforts in the community, including that for national development efforts.”

“Under this program, King Fahd National Library will be the incubator for the project,” he added. Al-Saudi described the new project as part of the national plan for science, technology and innovation projects. “It is within the framework of the initiative of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques Arabic Content project which was aimed at strengthening the production of Arabic digital content.”

The project will support the development and transformation of the country into a knowledge-based society.

In his brief comment, Al-Rashed said that a meeting of the board of trustees of the King Fahd National Library, chaired by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, approved the project which was to be coordinated with KACST for its implementation.

The agreement, he said is the beginning of fruitful cooperation with KACST for the greater interests of the country and to support the national plan for science, technology and innovation.

Al-Rashed added that the project aims to electronically archive national intellectual production documentation and compile a list of articles published in scientific journals in the fields of science and technology, and also to create a digital library of articles and academic journals in the fields of science and technology.
