JEDDAH: The General Directorate of Narcotics Control (GDNC) has warned school students to keep off drugs such as Captagon pills that are promoted by peddlers as “helpful” during the examination period, but are actually very harmful.
“The sellers of these drugs, called ‘illusion’ pills, become active during the intermediate and secondary school exam period and falsely claim that such pills will help them study and deal with exams,” the GDNC, which has launched an all-out war against drugs, said.
Through its Twitter account, the GDNC quoted Sheikh Khalaf Al-Mutlaq, the mufti of the Eastern Region, as warning students against taking drugs during the exams and urging them to seek the help of Allah for success.
Tariq Al-Ahmadi, professor of pharmacology, said Captagon pills are the weapons of the enemies as their components are dangerous and destroy the brain cells. He advised the students not to fall into the trap of drugs.
Meanwhile, the security bodies and the GDNC authorities are monitoring schools and tracking down promoters of drugs, security sources said.
Secret teams are posted near schools to protect students from promoters and “bats of darkness”, the sources said.
Meanwhile, security patrols in Khamis Mushayat Province arrested two people in two separate operations and seized 750 Captagon pills from them. They were referred to the competent authorities for completion of the regulatory procedures, security sources said.
Earlier, Abdulilah Al-Sharif, assistant director general of GDNC for protective affairs, said the number of Captagon pills seized in foiled smuggling operations in the first four months of the current Hijri year stood at 26 million.
He said there are big security efforts in the fight against drug smuggling operations led by Crown Prince Prince Mohammed bin Naif.
“The enemy is targeting The Kingdom’s security and political stability by trying to destroy our youths through drugs,” he said.
Schools have also informed parents what time the students will leaved schools after the exams, so that they are prevented from drugs or car drifting.
