JEDDAH: The Cabinet, in its weekly meeting on Monday, praised Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman for his patronage and support of King Abdulaziz University, and attending the institution’s 50th anniversary this week, where he was awarded an honorary doctorate for his contribution to the Muslim world.
Culture and Information Minister Adel Al-Toraifi said the Cabinet was briefed by the minister of justice on the transference of penal and appeal courts of the Board of Grievances to the Ministry of Justice, a significant move for the development of the judiciary.
The Cabinet reviewed several reports on events in the region and the world, and welcomed the joint statement issued at the conclusion of the 4th joint ministerial meeting between the GCC and the Russian Federation, the joint statement issued after the meeting between GCC foreign ministers with Canada’s Stephane Dion and the UK foreign minister.
The Cabinet welcomed the results of the 139th session of the GCC Ministerial Council, the decisions issued by the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Arab Foreign Ministers, and Arab Information Ministers Council’s adoption of Al-Quds as the “Capital of Arab Media.”
Later, the Cabinet announced several decisions including approving a memorandum with Malaysia on defense; and for the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage to discuss an agreement with Bulgaria.
The Cabinet authorized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to discuss a political pact with Georgia; and for the finance and civil service ministries to have representatives on the council running universities. It also authorized the Ministry of Housing to discuss two draft MoUs with Malaysia and Singapore.
