Restoration and rehabilitation work is under way at the King Fahd Cultural Center in Al-Moftaha village of Asir province in order to welcome visitors during the 4th National Urban Heritage Forum (NUHF) that is to be held from Dec. 1 to 4.

“The work is occurring at the center as recommended by the executive committee of the NUHF,” said a spokesman of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA).

Asir municipality, in collaboration with the SCTA’s local branch, is working to complete the restoration and rehabilitation of the center, not only to prepare it for the opening ceremony and other events to be held there during the four day forum, but also for future events throughout the coming years, he said.

Regarding the events that are scheduled to be held in the center in the near future, he said that besides the opening ceremony, the center will host a major exhibition that will generate significant participation by both the public and private organizations, in addition to a fine art works gallery event which is set to draw upon Asir’s urban heritage and historic photos, and will involve scientific workshops, construction workshops, free hand drawing lessons and a “paint with heritage” competition.

The official further noted that Asir municipality has funded a large proportion of these preparations, including the rehabilitation of the center facade, including its painting and lighting. Using these funds, the SCTA branch will also open a heritage cafe at the King Fahd Cultural Center.
