JEDDAH: Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman was received by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan as he arrived in the country after a 5-day state visit to Egypt.

At Ankara’s Esenboga international airport, President Erdogan warmly received the monarch as he begins an official visit to the country.

King Salman is expected to attend the OIC meeting in Istanbul later this week.

Earlier in Cairo, the king was seen off by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi.

The king was given an honorary degree from Cairo University on Monday just before his departure.

Since touching down in the Arab republic on Thursday, King Salman and his delegation have announced a string of investments in Egypt, as well as a lavish plan to build a bridge over the Red Sea between Saudi Arabia and Egypt.

The two countries agreed “to set up a Saudi-Egyptian investment fund with a capital of 60 billion Saudi riyals ($16 billion),” the announcer said.

At a historic speech at Egypt’s Parliament, King Salman called for “unity” and “joint alliance.”

“The Saudi-Egyptian cooperation we are witnessing today is a blessed beginning for our Arab and Muslim world to achieve balance after years of destabilization,” he said.
