RIYADH: The Kingdom continued its relief assistance through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid & Relief Center providing tons of dates under the World Food Program (WFP) to distressed and needy people in Afro-Asian countries.

The center recently gifted 200 tons of dates each to Sri Lanka and Jordan.

An official here said the center, through the WFP, distributed 774 tons of dates in Pakistan, Jordan and Mauritania.

The center provided 396 metric tons of dates for relief assistance to be distributed among 148,000 registered families in the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA), a semi-autonomous tribal region in northwestern Pakistan.

In Pakistan, the dates distribution campaign started from the Jalozai camp in the area in presence of Saudi Embassy officials, who reaffirmed the Kingdom’s commitment to continue supporting relief efforts for the affected communities of FATA and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. 

Moreover, the center delivered 306 tons of dates for distressed Syrians inside Al-Zaatari Refugee Camp in northern Jordan, and Azraq camp in central-eastern Jordan.

It also provided 72 tons of dates to Mauritania under the World Food Program.

A team from the center delivered 200 tons of dates from the Kingdom to the Sri Lankan people and the consignment was received by Sri Lankan Minister of Post Service and Islamic Affairs Mohamed Hashim Abdulhaleem.

The minister expressed his gratitude to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman for the humanitarian gesture.

Furthermore, the team from the center delivered a 200 tons of gifted dates to the Jordanian people.

The Jordanian Royal Court expressed thanks to the center and the Saudi government for the gift.

Earlier, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees and General Coordinator for Syrian Refugees and Iraqis Amin Awadh praised the achievements of the center for refugee and humanitarian works.

The Riyadh-based center also signed an agreement with UNICEF last year to offer assistance to the Yemeni people.
