A group of Syrian volunteers living in Saudi Arabia launched a charitable campaign to collect and deliver sacrificial sheep to Syria. They will deliver the collected meat to Damascus, Damascus suburbs, Hama, Aleppo, Deer ezzor, Laziqqiyah, Edleb and Der’ah. They formed committees responsible for collecting donations from donors wanting to give their sacrifices to Syrians living under the Syrian army’s strikes.

“The Eid Sacrifices are a seasonal project and will continue in the coming years. The idea of this charity work is to deliver the sacrifices to people inside Syria,” said Riyadh Batal, a Syrian mechanic and a member of the Syrian Charity Foundation (SCF).

He said that there were two kinds of sacrifices; sheep slaughtered inside Syria, which were usually very expensive, and sheep slaughtered outside Syria, saved in cans, and delivered to Syria within three days.

“The second kind is much cheaper than the local sacrifices,” said Batal. He assured that the sheep slaughtered outside of Syria were supervised by SCF representatives. He said the sheep being slaughtered were in accordance with Sharia and were free of chemical contents.

Batal said the meat then entered into the country in coordination with members of the Kheer organization spread around Syria.

“SCF activities are not limited to Eid sacrifices, there are many other projects like supplying milk for children because their mother’s milk dried up having seen terror every day,” said Batal.

“We also work on providing winter clothes for homeless people, as the cold season is coming soon,” he said.

Umm Mohammad, a woman volunteering with SCF, said “We are a group of boys and girls volunteering to stand by the Syrian people through humanitarian projects. Each one of us has volunteered in his or her field of expertise. Some are specialized in clothes, others in medicines,” she said.
