JEDDAH: Minister of Labor and Social Development Mufrej Al-Haqabani led Saudi Arabia at the 105th session of the International Labor Conference, which was inaugurated on Monday in Geneva, Switzerland. Delegations from at least 187 countries are participating in the conference.
The Kingdom’s participation in the conference is in line with the Saudi Vision 2030 that includes among others developing and strengthening international relations, especially in the field of labor and development.
The conference is expected to discuss several technical issues involving global supply chains and current efforts toward peace, security and disaster preparedness, in addition to a discussion of the impacts of the World Labor Organization’s announcement on social justice and fair globalization, the amendments to the maritime work agreement and the revision of the reports by the Director-General on poverty.
The International Labor Conference is one of the most important forums in the world for the discussion of issues and policies relating to labor; during its meetings held every year in June, the ILO seeks to adopt new international labor standards and to apply them to countries worldwide.
Meanwhile, on Sunday the Arab delegations held the first coordination meeting for the Arab group to discuss the reports to be introduced during the conference based on the decisions of the 43rd session of the Arab Labor Conference held in Cairo last April.
The delegations discussed a number of items that will be raised during the conference, and reviewed the speech to be delivered by the Chairperson of the Arab group on behalf of the Arab countries.
