RIYADH: The Kingdom and China discussed cultural cooperation including ongoing preparations for the next “Roads of Arabia” show to be held in Beijing and a Chinese cultural expo to be held here at the National Museum.
A Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH) official said on Sunday that a Chinese delegation recently visited the Kingdom during which cultural cooperation between the two countries was discussed.
“During the meeting, both sides discussed details concerning the Roads of Arabia expo in Beijing as well as the visiting Chinese exhibition in Saudi Arabia to be held at the National Museum in Riyadh,” he said.
An agreement to host the Roads of Arabia show this year in Beijing was signed here by the two countries during Chinese President Xi Jinping’s Riyadh visit in January.
The delegates also discussed the Chinese Expo to be hosted here by the National Museum as part of the bilateral agreement. Both expo will be organized later this year.
The two sides also discussed the areas of cooperation relating to archaeological excavations in the Kingdom in the framework of the agreement signed by the two countries in January.
The delegates discussed the possibility of a joint study on Chinese celadon (Chinese green ceramics) discovered at archaeological sites in the Kingdom which date back more than 1,000 years, besides forming a joint team to carry out excavations at Al-Sireen, in Jeddah Municipality, which is rich in Chinese celadon findings.
Notably, the Roads of Arabia show was launched in 2010 and since then it has been hosted by 10 international museums in Europe and the US.
It started with the Louvre Museum in Paris, France (July 2010), then moved to La Caixa Foundation in Spain, the Hermitage Museum in Russia, the Pergamon Museum in Berlin, Germany before it moved to the United States and now China.
