Saudi Arabia and South Korea will further enhance bilateral cooperation in all areas, especially in the fields of atomic and renewable energy. These conclusions were drawn at the 17th session of the Saudi-Korea Joint Commission Meeting (JCM), which concluded in Riyadh on Monday.

“All spheres of bilateral cooperation between the two friendly countries were extensively discussed during the day-long session led by minister of Economy and Planning, Muhammad Al-Jasser,” Jungho Lee, spokesperson of the Korean embassy in KSA, told Arab News on Tuesday.

The meeting was co-chaired by Korean Foreign Minister Yun Byung-se, who headed his country’s delegation to the Kingdom.

During the meeting, issues dealing with bilateral cooperation, such as trade and commerce, cultural ties and education were discussed, but the priority issues during the meeting were renewable and atomic energies, Lee said.

South Korean ambassador in Riyadh, Kim Jin-soo, recently held a follow up meeting with Waleed Hussein Abulfaraj, vice-president of King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE) to discuss bilateral cooperation.

Earlier, KACARE President Hashim Yamani visited Seoul to explore further cooperation in technical expertise with South Korea, which include atomic energy.

As the Kingdom looks forward to promote an ambitious energy program, it aims to reduce dependence on petroleum to produce electrical energy and expedite process for atomic and renewable energy.
