RIYADH: The Saudi Arabian pavilion was adjudged the best among the exhibitors of the 15th OIC Trade Fair, which concluded in Riyadh last week. The event was inaugurated by Riyadh Gov. Prince Faisal bin Bandar at the Riyadh International Convention Center and Exhibition in the presence of local and foreign dignitaries.
Morocco grabbed the second place, while Bangladesh was placed third in the order of preference for the awards. The largest was the Saudi pavilion located on 1,050 square meters. It displayed a wide range of its goods and products. Its non-oil exports have reached more than 100 countries in the world with a trade balance of more than SR 200 billion annually.
Bangladesh Ambassador Golam Moshi said that he was encouraged to not that his country's pavilion was placed third. He said 36 companies participated in the fair and his country's Commerce Minister Tofail Ahmed attended the event as a special guest.
Turki Al-Toaimi, adviser to minister of trade and investment and general supervisor of the expo, said that Kingdom has won the first prize for the best pavilion on two similar occasions in Senegal in 2007 and Egypt in 2009. A total of 39 OIC members states took part in the show held under the aegis of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.
According to Commerce and Investment Minister Majid Al-Qassabi, the intra-regional trade among the Islamic countries reached $878 billion last year.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Commerce and Investment in cooperation with the OIC, the Islamic Center for Development of Trade (ICDT) and the Council of Saudi Chambers.
The main objective of the trade fair was to introduce the products, industries and services of the OIC member states, as well as to raise the level of trade exchange and to promote the investment opportunities among the member states and also to deepen cooperation in various economic fields among the member states.
