RIYADH: Courts in the Kingdom have reviewed the case of a Moroccan spouse of a deceased Saudi businessman, after a Moroccan court issued judgment confirming the businessman had legally married the Moroccan woman and fathered a son with her 30 years ago.

The Personal Status Court held its first session on Tuesday, attended by concerned parties and heirs, to consider the woman’s plea to enter into the inheritance instrument. The children of the deceased from his Saudi wife however refused to recognize him, according to the Moroccan woman.

The mother later proceeded with a lawsuit to prove his lineage that gave a decision in the favor the widow and her son after several sessions.

The other sons appealed against the ruling, but the judge upheld the decision, despite their objection. Following the court judgement, she approached her step sons for the settlement, but she said they refused to recognize her son’s relationship with their father, and offered her a sum of SR40 million to close down the case, essentially disproving any descent.

“I rejected this and insisted on the rights of my son in full, and receiving his identification and rights in accordance with Shariah law.”
