Saudi Arabia is expected to surpass the United States of America in cost-competitive renewable power, according to an informed source at the Solar Energy Authority (Soler DirectX).
But a report by the e-magazine Cleantechnica, quoting an official of France’s Solairedirect, said that the price of solar energy in the US is estimated to range between $130-243 per megawatt hour (MWh) by 2019, while its cost in Saudi Arabia is predicted to range between $70-100 per MWh.
Cleantechnica, which specializes in renewable energy, noted that local Saudi research establishments such as King Abdullah University for Science and Technology are making breakthroughs in the field, which could lead to the production of lower cost solar energy.
