The Ministry of Justice said that the month of Dul Hijjah of the current year recorded the lowest number of divorce cases Kingdom-wide.

The ministry cited data taken from Riyadh, Jeddah, Makkah, Taif, Qunfudah and Abha to support its contention.

The Ministry of Justice site revealed that Riyadh recorded 1,213 marriage cases since the beginning of this year with 5,248 marriage certificates for non-Saudi.

The number of marriage certificates issued in Jeddah reached 6,340 since the beginning of the year, while divorce cases reached 5,284.

In Makkah, there were 1,883 marriage cases and 2,314 divorce cases, while the number of marriage cases in Abha reached 31 cases and 536 divorce cases since the beginning of the year.

Separate figures for Dul Hijjah were not given.

A number of specialists and social activists have warned of the increasing number of divorces in recent years, demanding numerous awareness programs for young couples to make them aware of the importance of protecting the family structure which is the corner stone of society and on which communities are based.

They called for the intensification of counseling for married couples, and support and to organizing awareness programs and activities that serve to reduce the divorce rate.
