RIYADH: An African woman was arrested in Jazan for stealing gold jewelry worth SR60,000, which was a dowry for a woman getting married.
The police suspected the maid when the family reported the theft of the jewelry in Al-Arish province. When the police arrived at the home, they saw the maid running away onto a farm. With the help of the farm owner, the woman was arrested and her white handbag with the jewelry found hidden in a pile of wood.
In a separate incident in Riyadh recently, two housemaids and a driver, all expatriates, were arrested for allegedly stealing 50,000 euros and SR60,000 from the residence of a Saudi citizen. The driver is an Ethiopian national but the nationalities of the maids are not known. The police made the arrests following a complaint by a citizen. Investigations revealed the driver, who was living in the Kingdom illegally, allegedly helped the housemaids escape with the cash.
