The Makkah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCI) has accepted the resignation of its secretary general after delaying its decision twice.

Adnan Shaffi submitted his resignation in mid-Ramadan last year. Tuesday was his last working day after serving for two-and-a-half years.

“Today will be my last day as secretary general of the Makkah chamber; because of personal circumstances I can no longer give the chamber the time and effort needed to achieve its sustainable development objectives,” said Shaffi.

He said the chamber would continue its developmental processes because it was stable. The chamber had moved to new buildings that are equipped to provide quality services for its employees and beneficiaries, he said.

“Many names have been nominated to take my place, but this is the board’s decision. They will appoint whomever they see fit to operate the chamber’s matters and manage its vital apparatus,” he said.

Talal Mirza, chairman of the board, said the secretary general submitted his resignation in July, but stayed on because of business needs until the end of the Hijri year.

Mirza thanked Shaffi for his contribution to the general secretariat and the chamber’s departments. He said Shaffi had helped establish relations with external entities, represented the chamber at several conferences and assisted in the restructuring of the general secretariat and vital directorates.
