JEDDAH: A league of 18 religious, cultural and academic organizations in Malaysia has condemned Iran for politicizing Haj and depriving its citizens of the pilgrimage this year.
The league has expressed its full confidence and trust in the measurements taken by the Kingdom for Haj this year and those in the future, as it has been successful over the last several decades, local media reported.
The reaction against Iran’s continuous refusal to accept the Kingdom’s plans to ensure safety and security of pilgrims has started trickling in from various quarters. The Malaysian organizations are the first among them to condemn Iran’s actions.
Shaheen Awwaluddeen, executive director of the Malaysian organization Wamy, said it is the right of the Kingdom to take necessary steps to ensure peace and security to Haj pilgrims and make best arrangements for the season. He said that the minutes of arrangements prepared by the Kingdom reflected agreement and cooperation between the Islamic countries.
Fathulbari Mat Khai, president of Malaysian Academic Association, said that Iran’s stand on the Haj arrangements has raised many questions, as they ensure peace and safety of pilgrims. “We are afraid that Iran would again cause the incidents which it did in the past,” he said.
