RIYADH: Riyadh police arrested a Saudi man who posted a video on social media claiming it was a film of a bus carrying women employees from a prestigious university in the capital.

The suspect, who is in his thirties, had filmed a bus carrying workers from King Abdulaziz Medical City and had posted it online as if the passengers were from another university.

Spokesman for Riyadh police Col. Fawaz Al-Maiman said that the suspect had admitted his guilt and has not given any specific reason for his action.

He warned people not to abuse social media by posting such pictures which can lead to serious consequences. He stressed that such offenses come under the e-crime system where offenders will be subject to severe punishments.

Last year, a video clip circulated on social media showed two men following a girl at a mall in Taif and one of them tried to touch her. The suspects were warned and discharged.

Video clips posted on social media can be easily traced and the person who posts them identified by police through modern technology.

In a study release last year, the Justice Ministry pointed out that the Riyadh-based Special Criminal Court recorded the highest number of pornography related cases during the past three years with 76 instances.
