The director of health affairs in Bisha, Amer bin Mshari Al-Sairi, has ordered an investigation into a medical error which resulted in the fracture of the skull of an infant during birth in Sabt Al-Alaya hospital last Saturday.

The baby’s grandfather, Abdullah Mohammad Al-Qarni, said he took his daughter to the Sabt Al-Alaya general hospital where she underwent a cesarean section surgery.

He added that during the operation the infant suffered a fracture to his skull.

The baby was later transferred to King Abdullah Hospital in Bisha.

An examination and tests proved that the child had suffered from a broken skull and hemorrhage which might lead to future disability, according to doctors.

The grandfather said he took a detailed medical report of the baby, Abdullah, and filed an emergency referral to King Fahd Medical City in Riyadh. The family is still waiting for the hospital’s response. The grandfather said he also filed a complaint with the health affairs director in Bisha.

Abdullah bin Saad Al-Ghamidi, official spokesman for Bisha health affairs, said the complaint has been reviewed by the health director in Bisha, who has given directives to the follow-up committee to investigate the incident and file their report. Al-Sairi also issued directions to follow up on the baby’s case and refer him to a specialized hospital if the need arises.
