A Saudi national who left to join the Islamic State has been killed. News of the death of Faisal bin Shaman Al-Anazi — who had previously worked as a doctor — has spread on social networking websites.

The circumstances surrounding his death are unconfirmed. According to one report, he was blown up in a booby-trapped car, while another account said he was killed while treating injured militants in an IS base, which was shelled.

Al-Anazi may have been responding to a call issued earlier this month by IS leader and self-appointed caliph, Abu Bakr Al-Baghdadi, for skilled Muslims — including doctors and engineers — to flock to its newly declared pan-Islamic state.
