The Ministry of Education has issued detailed list of fees to be charged by private schools at all levels, to prevent any fee increase by them.

However, the ministry said that it was up to the owner to determine the transport fees.

According to sources quoted by a local daily, this procedure came about when some schools increased the fees by 150 percent after the ministry’s approval of 90 percent for four years in a row.

The sources pointed out that the ministry will not consider the operational fees of schools afterward, which were only excuses used by the schools to cover up the losses after the increase of salaries for teachers to SR5,600.

Also, the ministry requested the private school owners to come up with a future plan for their institutions and operational need to fix tuition.

Any increase in new fees will be allowed only when new educational programs beneficial to the students are added, according to the ministry.

More than 1,530 private and international schools have sought a free increase this year. Some of them have been approved, some partially approved and some others rejected.

The standards of raising education fees include measurement indicators for cost and efficiency, the level of localization of educational and administrative functions at the school, and the implementation of the royal order of supporting teachers’ salaries. Also, tuition must include all services provided to the student, except for school transportation.
