The Charity Committee for Orphans Care revealed a plan to be implemented with the cooperation of the Ministry of Housing to provide lands and houses for girls with special cases of unknown parents.

The charity said there are a number of girls in the Eastern Province who already meet the conditions of the Housing Ministry and were given priority in house entitlement.

Fatima Al-Farhan the head of female department at the charity said during the monthly Tuesday meeting held recently in the EP chamber that there are 200 girls registered with the institution, all with special circumstances, and have completed their term in the shelters of the Social Affairs Ministry.

She added: “The charity is still following up their conditions and will help them solve the problems they face. About 50 of these females are experiencing marital problems and are demanding divorce for lack of financial resources.”

She said a number of these girls marry men with the same special circumstances and eventually face marital problems that end with divorce.

“Currently, we are in the process of implementing a new plan with the collaboration of the Housing Ministry to provide houses for those females who meet the ministry’s conditions. Other females have received lands from the municipalities, but they sold the lands because of their distant locations which made it difficult to build houses on them.”

The head of the female department explained that the charity extends legal advice to the girls if needed.

Elaborating on the social status of the charity’s girls she said: “Seventy-nine percent of them are married, 13 percent divorced, 5 percent single, 2 percent deserted and I percent widowed.”

She pointed out that 75 percent of the girls were brought to the charity house from foster families, 7 from their natural families, 6 percent with unknown father and 12 from the various shelter houses.

She added that 72 percent of the girls are married and lead a good family life, against 28 percent who have married men with special cases like themselves.

On the accommodation issue she said: “Fifty-nine of the girls live in rented houses, 36 percent own properties and 5 percent live in Waqf properties.”

The education levels of the girls vary, she explained, with 38 percent high school graduates, 21 percent middle school graduates, 12 percent elementary, 5 percent diploma-holders, 2 percent illiterate and 1 percent with master degrees.
