RIYADH: The municipality under Aldair Bani Malik governorate in Jazan region has closed a mobile slaughterhouse due to violations of health regulations.
The slaughterhouse committed health violations that posed health hazards to residents, said Ghassab bin Nayef Al-Otaibi.
It “did not observe the required level of hygiene and also lacked veterinarians to inspect the carcasses to ensure a healthy practice,” he said.
He said the slaughterhouse was closed on a committee recommendations that was appointed to monitor the abattoir operations. He said the slaughterhouse also did not dispose of waste and discharged fluids in the correct way, meaning that public health was endangered.
“Aside from the low level of hygiene, the slaughterhouse workers did not dress properly, in accordance with their work,” Al-Otaibi said.
He noted that one of the workers even showed symptoms of sickness, probably due to the unhealthy environment. This deterred health-conscious customers from dealing with him.
Al-Otaibi said the slaughterhouse will remain closed until a proper investor offers to operate it in accordance with the terms and conditions of the contract.
“That means that in order to be reopened, the slaughterhouse workers need to observe healthy working conditions, should dress properly and must dispose of waste with careful regard for public safety,” he said.
