The Ministry of Interior has issued a firm warning to a number of governorates in the country against approving fund-raising campaigns without prior approval of the bodies of jurisdiction, mainly the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Sources said that the directive was issued following information that such campaigns are being organized with the permission of governorates which in itself is a violation of the system of collecting donations.

According to these sources, the ministry has already cracked down on some of the governorates for allowing the fund-raising campaigns which required prior approval of the Ministry of Social Affairs.

The Council of Ministers has made it mandatory for governorates to seek the approval of the Ministry of Social Affairs for fund-raising or donations of any kind. The Cabinet decision also warned against collecting donations for charity without the approval of the Social Affairs Ministry.
