JEDDAH: Over 10 tons of spoiled rice packed in bags carrying branded names was seized by the Jeddah Municipality in Khumra, south of Jeddah, on Sunday.
Several people involved in the illegal activity were arrested, said Mohamed Al–Zahrani, head of the south branch of the municipality.
A total of 3,000 bags of the rice weighing around 10 tons were ready to be sold under popular brands in the market, he said .
"The municipality had been monitoring the site for a long time and found labor and other violations. The confiscated rice and the bags were destroyed immediately," said Al-Zahrani.
He said the municipality is relentlessly working to ensure the health safety of the people in the city.
