RIYADH: The National Project for the Prevention of Narcotics (Nebras) launched a thee-day program on preventing drug addiction among students in the Kingdom.

Nebras is part of the National Committee of Narcotics Control (NCNC), with Ilah bin Mohammed Al-Sharif as secretary-general.

“The program aims to prepare trainers on drug prevention in accordance with the directive of the Saudi leadership,” Al-Sharif said.

Nebras has appointed 50 female leaders at intermediate and secondary schools to engender awareness among students on the dangers of drug addiction.

Al-Sharif added that the program focuses heavily on training in all sectors of the educational environment.

“The program aims to build national capacities and play its role in the fight against drugs,” he said.

He added that training under the program comes as part of the operational plan for the project and there will be daily sessions in all regions of the Kingdom.

On the first day, the focus of the program will be to learn about the different types of drugs which are widespread in the Kingdom.

The focus on the second day will be methods in helping the family prevent drug addiction and the signs in a person who is drug dependent.

“The last day will be devoted to skills to contain drug addiction as well as counseling of persons hooked on drugs,” the NCNC secretary general said.

Nebras, which is part of the National Committee of Narcotics Control, is undertaking the project in collaboration with other government agencies including the General Directorate of Drug Control, which is represented by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Health and Education Ministries.
