JEDDAH: Sardar Attique Ahmed Khan, former prime minister of Azad Kashmir, on Monday said peaceful negotiations between India, Pakistan and Kashmiri leaders is the best solution to solve the Kashmir dispute. Condemning the action of Indian security forces against protesters in the valley, he warned that a military solution could lead to a nuclear war, the consequences of which would be horrendous.

“In India-occupied Kashmir, the capability of Kashmirs can be judged by the number of Indian defense forces. Around 800,000 personnel are present in the valley to kill the Kashmiri movement,” he said during a Pakistani Journalists Forum event here.

Khan said the Pakistan government should take more interest in the Kashmir issue and try hard to find a solution. “Even world leaders and governments should pursue the Indian government to understand the Kashmir problem.”

“We want a political solution to the Kashmir issue and negotiation is the only way. The UN resolution is the best road map for the Kashmir dispute,” said Khan, adding that Kashmiris cannot be sidelined when any discussions are held to address the problem.

“The martyrdom of 600,000 Kashmiris will not go in vain, and nobody can stay in peace by spilling the blood of Kashmiri people,” he said.

“We respect Indian integrity, but India should accept the right of self-determination of Kashmiris,” he added.

About the recent attack on an army garrison in Uri, Khan said, “It was conspiracy of India to deploy more army men in Indian-occupied Kashmir.”

Khan said it was disappointing that the Pakistani prime minister did not involve a single individual from Azad Kashmir Parliament to discuss the Kashmir issue during his recent world tour.
