The residents of Jeddah’s Al-Shalawi neighborhood are excited at the prospects of receiving power connection soon. A well-informed source at the electricity company said meters are being installed in coordination with the Jeddah municipality in preparation for the electricity supply.

The source added that the electricity linkage process will take a long time, so the company decided to prioritize Al-Shalawi to end the suffering of its residents who spent a long time without electricity.

Other areas in Jeddah await being linked with electricity as part of a comprehensive plan within the development and building process, such as Al-Marwa, Al-Haramain and Al-Muhamadiyya neighborhoods.

Residents anxiously await the electric line after a decision was made to give electricity to houses whose residents don’t have title deeds. They asked for resolutions to many of their problems away from complicated bureaucracy.

Obaid Al-Salami, a resident of Al-Shalawi, lives with his seven family members for 10 years in a SR450,000 house. He was surprised to know of a system that prevents linking electricity to the random house built after 7 Jamadi Awwal 1425H, saying that plenty of people await an end of this problem caused by bureaucracy.

“Things get worse during summer time despite our appeals although we get water and phone services,” he said.
