The Ministry of Social Affairs has revealed new details about the gruesome torture of a boy in Jazan at the hands of his father, who was arrested last week after pouring two types of chemical bleach on his son’s head when he refused to steal.

Khalid Al-Thubaiti, ministry spokesman, said a team from the child protection unit had reported to the hospital to visit the boy and investigate the incident further.

“Jazan Gov. Prince Mohammed bin Nasser issued directives to several government bodies, including the Social Affairs Ministry branch in Jazan, to submit its report to a committee that has been tasked with looking into the case,” he said.

Medical personnel told authorities that 50 percent of the boy's scalp had been bruised and burned by the bleach.

The ministry also revealed that the Saudi man, who was arrested after the boy’s Yemeni mother — a divorcee — had rushed him to hospital, had forced his son to beg so he could use the money to buy drugs.

“The boy is in stable condition, but is still undergoing treatement,” he said. “The boy had been abused by his drunken and addicted father for years.”

Al-Thubaiti added that the committee addressed Jazan’s charity organization to extend financial and in-kind forms of assistance to the family until they get back on their feet.

Authorities have also been directed to issue a family ID, after the father had routinely refused to include them on his own documents, and have the children enrolled in school.

The Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution will provide the committee with the man’s case file.
