The Saline Water Conversion Corporation (SWCC) has announced the arrival of the second unit of the desalination plant to be installed at the desalination and power generation facility of the Yanbu Third Phase project.

“The unit, which is dubbed as the largest water desalination plant in the world, will be installed on a concrete foundation at an appropriate location under the supervision of a committee of the project by the end of the current week,” Director General of SWCC Western Coast Muhammad Aed said on the occasion of the arrival of the unit in Yanbu.

This unit is the second of six units to be supplied by the Doosan Global for the Yanbu project that aims to supply 550,000 cubic meters of water to the Madinah province when completed, he added. The first unit of the project was installed in May.

While Doosan supplies four units, two units will be manufactured in the Kingdom as part of a technology transfer agreement.

The unit operating on MSF system weighs 3,836 tons, and 135X26 meters in size. It will produce 94 cubic meters of potable water per day.

When completed, the project will supply 550,000 cubic meters of desalinated water daily covering the future needs of the Madinah province, he said.

The third and fourth units will be installed in November while the fifth and sixth units will be installed by the first half of 2016, he added.
