New Zealand Governor-General Jerry Mateparae visited the Al-Musmak palace museum in Riyadh to learn about the Kingdom’s unification.

Al Musmak fort and museum is a focal point of admiration with many visiting high profile world leaders making trips to learn about the Kingdom. Recent visitors include French President Francois Hollande and Irish Prime Minister Enda Kenny.

According to museum officials, the governor-general was briefed on the importance and historical position of Al-Masmak fort.

He took keen interest in having a detailed explanation on the Kingdom’s unification and the efforts by its founder, King Abdulaziz, an official said.

Mateparae toured the museum’s halls and saw photos, paintings and films. He also watched a film on the Riyadh city’s recapture.

Accompanied by a delegation of officials from his country, he was escorted by the New Zealand ambassador in Riyadh, Hamish MacMaster.

The New Zealand governor-general signed the guest book at Al-Musmak, in which he expressed his admiration of the museum and commended the developmental efforts of the Supreme Commission for Tourism and Antiquities (SCTA) in preserving national heritage and working for the development of museums and historic buildings.

The governor-general and the members of the delegation accompanying him were given souvenirs from the museum.

Earlier, a delegation comprised of a number of students of the Harvard University in the United States also visited Al-Musmak fort.
