JEDDAH: Numerous schools in Al-Ahsa have closed down, immediately after the start of the new academic year, due to non-functioning air-conditioning units, said the school directors in the Eastern Province.
Schools that have suspended classes for one week include the First Primary School in Al-Oyoun and the Prince Mohammed bin Fahd bin Jalwa Primary School for Boys.
Hamad bin Ali Al-Hussein, director of Prince Mohammed bin Fahd bin Jalwa Primary School, stated that the students will be informed to return only when the air-conditioning units are fixed.
“In the meantime, the teachers are being provided training courses at Sohaib Ibn Al-Roumi Middle School.”
Suhair Al-Hawas, director of media affairs at the Al-Ahsa Department of Education, stated that he has received confirmation of the ongoing maintenance of the faulty units from Mohammed bin Nawaf Al-Shamri, director of the Department for Building Affairs.
