RIYADH: The National Project for the Prevention of Narcotics (Nibras) aims to create a drug-free environment by using various media, including advertising, to promote and encourage positive values and raise awareness about the importance of prevention.
Project organizers hope to contribute to the lowering the rates of drug abuse among members of the society and encourage the role of family members and the community by raising their awareness about the dangers of drugs and use of psychotropic substances.
The project also aims to highlight the role of key partners in the national effort to prevent consumption of drugs, and reduce the number of crimes associated with drug abuse by young people.
Abdulilah bin Mohammed Al-Sharif, secretary-general of Nibras and NCNC chairman, said that Nibras is a national project with the goal to pool efforts in the fight against drugs in the kingdom and that has local, regional and international dimensions.
Al-Sharif also said that they involve family and child programs designed to raise awareness of family about the harmful effects of drugs and ways of preventing drug abuse.
An educational environment program is also targeting the school environment in order to educate students.
The program also includes Nibras Sports Stars program, which uses sports stars to send messages about drug abuse aimed at 10- to 15-year-olds. Other aspects of the campaign include a research program to help workers in the field of prevention, the Consulting Center program (Al-Rasheed 1955), a national program for addiction counseling and the Saudi Al-Marsad program, which monitors all programs and activities carried out by authorities in the field of prevention and control of drugs.
