RIYADH: The holy month of Ramadan is lively at night following Taraweeh prayers.

Nights are turned into days during the month in the industrial area where there is a large concentration of automobile workshops.

The industrial areas are well illuminated during this month to attract motorists who come for repairs or to paint their cars, and to buy new accessories for their vehicles.

These areas in the capital are found in the south of Batha, Ghuraibi Street, Al-Aruba old and new, near Takhasussi Street and Naseem. The road to these facilities is fully congested with traffic because of the heavy rush of motorists who want to get their vehicles attended to before the approaching Eid holidays.

During Ramadan, these workshops are open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. and 9 p.m. to 3 a.m. before the suhoor meal.

Balendran, an Indian mechanic at Al-Aruba Sinnaiyah, said customers prefer to come to the workshop after their Taraweeh prayers.

“Mornings are dull during this month. Customers hardly come since the days are very hot during this summer,” he added.

Sultan Butt, an Asian mechanic, said that it is fun to work during Ramadan since Muslim workers tend to put extra efforts as they work after iftar. “Saudi customers also give lavish tips after the completion of their work since it is the holy month,” he said.

Abdul Majeed, who works in an auto accessories shop on Ghoraibi Street, said that motorists rush to his shop to buy accessories for their new cars.

“During this month, a lot of locals and affluent expatriates also go for new vehicles and they come to tint their windshields, fix fog lights, install car alarms, lay new carpet and paste eye-catching stickers on their cars.”

A supervisor of a garage said that his garage handles all types of repairs except for vehicles damaged due to accidents. “Such damaged vehicles are accepted for repairs only if the owner of the car brings a certificate from the traffic police granting permission for these repairs,” he added.
