Saudi security sources have denied that the 15 Iranians arrested at the Al-Khafji coast are linked to internal or external terrorist groups.

“The preliminary investigation regarding the arrested Iranians revealed that the men carried nothing but mobile phones and Iranian rials. They entered Saudi waters after having lost their way while heading to Kuwait,” spokesman of the Saudi Border Guards in the Eastern Province, Col. Khaled Al-Orqubi, said in a statement.

Al-Orqubi denied social networking reports that went viral following the arrest of the infiltrators claiming that the security forces seized weapons and smart spying devices from the detained Iranians.

The spokesman also dismissed tweets that one of the arrested men was a commander of the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. “We did not find any information that proves one of the arrested men is a commander in the Iranian Revolutionary Guards. Let us wait for the investigation to complete before reaching any conclusions,” he said.

He added that the investigation would shortly generate more details about the circumstances that led to their illegal entry into the Kingdom.

Fourteen Iranians were arrested by the Boarder Guards, while attempting to enter the Kingdom illegally at the Al-Khafji beach on Thursday.
