Several employees at Riyadh’s Traffic Department have been found to have committed traffic violations themselves while on duty, said Ali Al-Dubaikhi, the department’s general director.

“Our department will take note of any violation committed by our team members while using traffic patrol vehicles,” Al-Dubaikhi told a local newspaper. “Numerous violations were committed in Riyadh. They will be looked into and the violators punished.”

He said punitive measures will vary according to the severity of the violation, "but may end in court or with detention.” Other measures could be salary deduction or disciplinary action.

“Traffic violation penalties apply to residents and employees alike, if anything they should be more severe for department members since they are the role model for drivers,” he said.
