The organizing committee of the Makkah Award for Excellence on Sunday invited nominations from individuals and groups for the sixth edition of the award in various specialty areas.

Abdulaziz Al-Khudairi, secretary-general of Makkah Governorate, said nominations can be sent in the next 90 days and called on members of the public to participate and nominate works that meet the objectives of the award.

The committee said nominations will be received through the Makkah Governorate, private and government entities and scientific and service establishments and research centers in the area.

The award was instituted following directions from Makkah Gov. Prince Khalid Al-Faisal, who is personally involved in the initiative.

Al-Kudairi said: “The award has gained prestige in the past five years since it recognizes the quality and quantity of the nominated works. The nominations point to the popularity of the award and its success in bringing out the creativity of Makkah citizens and fostering their desire to achieve the goals of the strategy, which is based on the two pillars: people and places.”

“The Makkah Excellence Award is a recognition of achievements that are out of the ordinary, which could serve as a role model for others. The award is aimed at bringing out the best in individuals and institutions, men and women, young and old, in the Makkah Province and showcasing their expertise to others.

Their works will be adopted and sponsored to ensure that everyone benefits from this initiative,” Al-Khudairi said.

According to Hisham bin Abdulrahman Al-Faleh, deputy secretary-general for development and secretary-general for the Makkah Excellence Award, the nomination process for the award prevents people from nominating themselves.

“The award is given for outstanding achievements. We try to reach and honor such individuals while they are still alive. The award focuses on encouraging outstanding work, whether at the individual or collective level, he said.

He also said that the award reinforces Islamic principles in professional ethics because it strives to rise with the level of performance, creativity and honest competition.
