The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) will be celebrated this year on Jan. 7-9 in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, with the participation of a large number of non-resident Indians (NRIs) from Saudi Arabia and other parts of the world.

The PBD is celebrated on Jan. 9 every year to mark the contribution of overseas Indians toward the development of their country. It was on Jan. 9, 1915, that Mahatma Gandhi returned to India from South Africa to lead India’s freedom struggle.

“A large number of delegates from across the world are expected to attend the three-day event,” said one of the organizers of the event. “The day will be celebrated in a grand way this year to mark the 100th anniversary of the return to India of Mahatma Gandhi, the great pravasi (expat), from South Africa,” he said.

“All Indian nationals living in Saudi Arabia, including persons of Indian origin, working in different fields such as academia, business, politics, government, media and civil society are welcome to participate in the convention,” he said.
