JEDDAH: The National Society for Human Rights (NSHR) revealed it received and dealt with 40,321 cases over the course of 11 years, pointing out that the majority of these cases were from men.

The body revealed that the number of reported bodies reached 30, with administrative cases ranking first with 11,973 notifications, followed by prisoners’ notifications reaching 7,204 calls, and calls regarding violence against children at the bottom of the list with 613 calls.

The society stated that its offices received 40,321 notifications over the past 11 years, of which 17,790 notifications were from Riyadh, followed by Makkah with 11,440 notifications, Jazan with 5,526 notifications, and Al-Jouf and Asir at the bottom of the list with 541 and 138 respectively.

The commission received 640 administrative cases last year with the majority of notifications from men at 460, while those from women reached 171. Around 24 nationalities reported to the commission last year with the largest number of complaints coming from Saudi citizens, and 33 people of unknown nationality.

NSHR stated that it received 460 calls in its offices in 13 provinces last year;148 were in Riyadh, followed by Jazan with 132 calls; Makkah with 118 calls; and Al-Jouf and Al-Baha at the bottom of the list with nine calls each. Complaints were mainly directed against 30 bodies.

NSHR revealed the number of registered civil status cases and complaints of violence against children last year grew in comparison with 2013, while the number of cases in the other seven categories received by the commission decreased. It received 2,939 cases in 2014 in comparison with 3,303 cases in 2013 with a decrease of 17 percent. Administrative cases had the largest share of these cases, and judicial cases came last with 55 cases.
